Hi, there. We’re Shannon & Rachel, Minnesota-based co-creators and co-authors of the upcoming series, The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Club.
We arrived to this point like many other sane women who were put, so lovingly, into the crazy ex-girlfriend bin. Except we aren’t crazy. Meeting each other, years after one man wore us each down until we were raw and bleeding, opened a pathway to healing and finally, validation that we were never crazy at all. Almost a decade after the worst of it, we’re ready to share that journey with the world.
Whether you were also tossed into the “crazy” bin, have dated literally at all in the 21st century, or are simply intrigued by our story, we’re glad you found us. Please, stay awhile. Have a look around.
The logistics
We will publish our joint memoir in alternating chapters once per week. The manuscript is complete, but releasing on schedule gives each piece its time and moment to breathe. Many rabbit holes, side quests, and other essays were cut from the manuscript and may end up being published in addition to the regular Chapters as Interludes.
This is a free publication, but your support goes a long way in helping us keep this blog running, and will free us to create more interesting and nuanced content. As time goes on, we may add little ~treats~ behind a paywall, like audio recordings, live videos, essays, etc. We are open to this journey unwinding in her own way, and we feel excited by not knowing quite where it will take us yet.
The true events in these essays are all told to the best of our human ability and memory. Some names and details may have been changed.
So we’re clear:
These events took place on stolen land, and while we believe that universal themes may arise from our experiences, we know that women, femmes, and genderqueer folks, and even men of different backgrounds, races, families, ethnicities, religions, class and more experience patriarchy and obstacles in a myriad of layered ways both known and foreign to us. Our story and those similar are just one slice of the pie chart of oppression that we will continue dismantling, one big fat bite at a time. An intersectional, decolonized, restorative future is the one we are trying to build for the next generation through this writing.
Content warnings will accompany particularly challenging chapters, but sexual and emotional abuse will be themes throughout. Sorry. We wouldn’t have chosen it either :-)
